A breathtaking panorama of the Japanese Alps!

Utsukushigahara Highlands is one of the largest and highest plateau in Japan. Take in an impressive 360 degree panoramic view of the entire Japanese Alps, from a vast plain which rests nearly 2,000 meters above sea level! From the southern to the northern and of course the central Alps, view the Norikura and Kamikochi mountain ranges. On a clear day you may even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji!

One of the symbols of Utsukushigahara Highlands is the Utsuki Tower. It once served as a waypoint for lost hikers thanks to the sound of its bell. The Open-Air Museum is also an interesting place to visit with its original and intriguing works of art.

Many hiking trails are available, from small paths easily accessible for most everyone to expert trails for experienced hikers. A cycling race is organized here each summer too: The Utsukushigahara Tour.

As an interesting fact, Utsukushigahara Highlands is home to the Japan’s highest “Michi-no-eki” rest stop. Don’t miss the chance to take a deep breath of fresh air over Matsumoto!
