A Traditional Performance Art !

Date : August

Every August, Matsumoto hosts the Takagi Noh Festival on a specially designed outdoor stage next to Matsumoto Castle. Performed since the 14th century, Noh is a traditional performance art famous for its use of dramatic masks and elaborate costumes.

Starting at twilight, the series of Noh performances go on until the sun fully sets. You may find yourself carried up in an atmosphere of yesteryear as the sunlight slowly fades behind the cast of performers and the famous wooden structure of Matsumoto Castle!

Discover the Takagi Noh Festival on a serene summer eve in Matsumoto. Get swept away by this distinct and timeless performance art as much as the Japanese audience members!
