An All-Ages Outdoor Space in Southern Matsumoto

Shinshu Sky Park is not just a quiet green space for a short stroll. It is a full-scale multipurpose park that offers something for everyone. Located about 30 minutes by car from the city center, it makes for a great day trip destination with plenty of activities to enjoy for both adults and children.

The park has everything you would expect for a relaxing afternoon: walking trails, shaded picnic areas, and open green spaces. But it also features several athletic and cultural facilities, including the easily recognizable Yamabiko Dome, a large indoor event venue. Families with children will especially enjoy the creative play zones, including a popular area with “fun bikes,” where kids can try out unique pedal-powered vehicles on a safe course.

Shinshu Sky Park – Not just a park

As you approach the park, one of the first things you will notice is the airport. Matsumoto Shinshu Airport sits right at the center of the park and is the only airport in Nagano Prefecture. Its central location makes it a convenient hub, providing access not only to Matsumoto City but also to the wider region, including the the historic temple city of Nagano and the popular ski resorts of Hakuba.

Another highlight is Alwin Stadium, home to the pro football team, Matsumoto Yamaga FC. This stadium is one of the highest-altitude professional venues in Japan and a favorite gathering place for local sports fans.

Surrounding the park is the quiet charm of the Japanese countryside. This part of Matsumoto, the busy city center, is dotted with traditional houses and farmland. The area is especially known for its fresh blueberries and sweet, juicy watermelons, which are local favorites during the summer months.
