Home to Generations of Tradition !
Located next to the Matsumoto City Museum of Art, Fukashi Shrine is dedicated to two Shinto deities, Suwamiyojin (deity of wind, water and agriculture) and Tenjin (deity of scolarship). The Tenjin deity lends his name to the most famous festival at this shrine, the Tenjin Matsuri.

This shrine also holds several other events throughout the year, including the Yasaka-sama Matsuri (which means: “Yasaka-god Festival”). Every July 14th, this festival presents an opportunity to pray for the health and happiness of children, by offering banners made of reed and paper on which each child writes with calligraphy brush strokes: “Dear Mighty Yasaka-sama, …”.
